Can I restore a deleted Telegram chat?

If it was deleted for both people, no: after the short undo window the chat is lost. If the other person deleted it only for themselves, your chat is still there.

Where did my chat go if I did not delete it?

Most often it is archived or in another folder: pull the chat list down and check your folders and the search. If it is nowhere, the other person may have deleted the chat for both.

Will a chat export help if the chat is already deleted?

Only an export made before the deletion: it sits on your computer as an ordinary file. A new export of a deleted chat is not possible.

Does Telegram Premium help?

No. Premium does not bring back deleted chats or messages. Flashback does not need it either.

Deleted Telegram chats: where to look, can they be restored

If a chat was deleted for both people, it cannot be restored: Telegram offers only 5 seconds to undo it, and after that, in Telegram's own words, the chat is lost for good. First check that the chat is really deleted and not just archived or sitting in another folder. If it is deleted, what is left is the other person's copy, any export you made earlier, and a bot that keeps future chats but cannot bring back past ones.

First check: is the chat really deleted?

Telegram can hide a chat without deleting it, and the most common case is the archive. Swiping a chat left in the chat list sends it to the archive; to see the Archived Chats folder again, pull the list down. Muted chats stay archived forever, and when an archived chat gets a notification it pops back into the main list. Also look in your other chat folders and search for the person by name. If the chat is there, just take it out of the archive.

Deleted for you only, or for both

When someone deletes a chat, they choose whether to remove it only for themselves or for both people. If only for themselves, the other person keeps the history: Telegram's privacy policy says a copy stays as part of the other person's message history. If for both, the chat disappears from both sides entirely and without a trace. Telegram presents this as a right of either person in a private chat, with no time limit.

If you just deleted the chat yourself

When you delete a chat or clear its history, Telegram offers to undo it for 5 seconds. If you are quick, the chat comes back. After that, as Telegram's blog puts it, the chat is irretrievably lost. If the time is up, the only copy that may still exist is the one the other person has.

What you can do once the chat is deleted

First, ask the other person: if they did not delete the chat on their side, they can forward the messages you need or export the chat. Second, look for an export you made earlier in Telegram Desktop: that file sits on your computer even if the chat was deleted later. Third, check Saved Messages, anything you forwarded elsewhere, and screenshots. A new export of an already deleted chat is not possible, because there is nothing left to export.

If they deleted the chat only for themselves, nothing changed for you and the chat is still there. If they deleted it for both, it is gone for you too, and the past messages cannot be recovered. Apps that promise to restore a chat

Telegram offers no way to bring back a chat deleted for both sides, and apps and services that promise it usually ask for your login code or access to your account. Never give your login code to anyone: Telegram's FAQ says so. If you have already entered it somewhere, end the extra sessions in the settings, in the Devices section.

How to avoid losing the next chats

If you want a full copy, export the chat in Telegram Desktop. If you want to know about a deletion, connect the Flashback bot to the private chats you choose through Chat Automation: it saves messages from the moment you connect, and when the other person deletes the chat for both, it sends a “🧹 Chat deleted” card with what it saved, usually within 5–10 minutes.
